my 95 has the chrome manual mirrors and the chrome piece on the passenger side is broke. i got another one out of the junkyard but the mirror part on it is scratched. how can i get this thing apart and put my good mirror with the good chrome piece????
Mirrors are typically held in place with adhesive. Glass shops use a long, thin, flexible blade to slip in there and cut the adhesive and pop the mirror out. Then they glue in the new one and wrap it with stretch-wrap until the adhesive sets.
The mirror glass itself. I guess I'm not picturing which mirrors you have as far as taking the housing off the support. There should be some screws somewhere, probably Torx screws. Popping the glass out may give you some more access to potential fasteners, too.
i have the black plastic ones that mount at the top of the door with 2 screws. the 92-96 are not that easy to find around here. i've only found 1 out of 4 of the local junkyards that even have a truck of this era, much less one with the parts i need. i do plan on buying new ones, and maybe converting to power mirrors in the future, but right now it's not in the budget with all the other stuff i'm doing to truck. i know the chrome part is held on with 4 screws from behind the mirror itself, i've just got to get to them, i'll try to get the mirror out and then see where i'm at. thanks for the help.
Just bust out glass/mirror and go get new glass/ mirror I just did $8.95. Put silicone behind it and tape in place for day or 2. The cost of playing and running around adds up. And if you mean to break it its not bad luck .Good luck .

Movable Glass, Outside Mirror
Removal
1. Push in on the inboard edge of the glass assembly until it stops.
2. Protect the mirror body with a rag or similar material at the outboard edge and insert a flat blade screwdriver (in about one inch) between the mirror body and glass assembly.
3. Pry the glass assembly out from mirror body until it snaps loose.
4. Remove the screwdriver and continue to pull the glass assembly by hand until it is completely unsnapped.

Installation
1. Position the glass assembly in the mirror, making sure the U-shaped alignment tabs on the glass are lined up with the motor actuator bar and slightly move glass around until it drops into place.
2. Push on the center of the glass assembly to snap it in place.
3. Check glass for looseness. If loose, push on glass until it is fully seated.
