So I bought a truck recently (check sig) and when I test drove it the trans didn't do anything funny. Now that I've had it for a bit I'm noticing that while driving it occasionally revs to like 2500rpm in 2nd gear then shifts to 3rd and immediately shifts to 4th. Another issue I've encountered is while cruising at 55-60mph it would occasionally drop out of gear and it would just rev like it was in neutral....
The range sensor has failed. This is the sensor located on the drivers side of the transmission, bolted to the shift linkage.
1.Chock your wheels & set the emergency brake.
2.Remove the two small bolts along with the large center bolt as well as unhooking the electrical connector.
3.Shift into neutral and remove the sensor.
4.Line up the two lines on the new sensor and install while the trans is in N position.
5.Install and tighten the bolts.
If your having issues with a counter person finding this sensor, have them look up "neutral safety switch".
Check the fuses in the dash. There is a fuse for the trans controller that seems to blow out on these few on time to time (I have had this issue in the past). Also look for wires worn thru at the drivers door around the rocker. But as stated above is pretty likely.
Is the od off light flashing on the shifter?
OD light doesn't flash when it does the 2nd gear straight to fourth thing but idk if it flashes when it drops out of gear and just revs. I didn't pay attention to the shifter when that happened cuz I thought I just blew my trans lol. Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it!
