You guys may want to check out the new line of flashlights from 5.11 They do not have batteries, but use capacitors. They charge in under 90 seconds and have 200 lumens. The runtime (1 hour) is not really a factor because they charge so quick. The one I have played with has ac and dc adapters and the charging base has a magnet on it that allows you to stick it to something metal. I used to carry a Maglite double D model in the old truck for years, the whole flashlight plus billystick thing.
Never used it, good thing too cause I rarely checked the batteries.
For the new SD, I picked up one of these at the Sports Authority. No batteries to worry about, and fits in better in the glove box. Probably still won't ever use it, unless camping and all the other battery flashlights go dead.

...I guess those 10 mile walks home from school in the dark as a kid made me this way ...
In the snow, and uphill both ways, right?
If all y'all are going to SHOT this coming January, we should have an FTE meet/greet/eat somewhere near the Sands. You won't find me at the flashlight booths though. I think I might have looked at one flashlight in the 15 or so SHOT shows I've been to. I'll be in the GUN section.
I had no idea Ford SuperDuty guys were such flashlight geeks. I've just got a cheap Eveready 2AA in the console, but at least it's LED.
And there's a Vietnam-era GI angle-head flashlight in the tool box. I usually only have to hit it on the ground a couple of times before it lights up. But it's got red and green lenses and I can send Morse with it....
And a NightStar Shakelight (AKA, jerk-off light) in the emergency kit for when hitting the GI angle-head on the ground doesn't work. No batteries needed, and waterproof down to 2200 ft (so when you drop it out of the boat while shaking it to charge, whoever snags it ten years later while bottom trolling will still be able to use it).
Joe -- you forgot to mention it is blowing snow with gusts to 70 mph!
BTW -- it sounds like you are flashlight guy too! Just not coming out of the dark and admitting it!
I have never been to the SHOT show and it sounds like the kind of show I would enjoy. How is the weather in Las Vegas in January? It is far enough out that I could begin working on the wife to get the general's permission.

I have the Nightstar sitting just inside the door of the Big Horn...I love the light as it always works...I do like the 511 capacitor light a bunch but I would choke on the price...
