I have a 2011 6.7 and I guess the truck is smarter than I am. I set the smart-key (have no idea what that is about) but have noticed the screed tells me to OK THE SEATBELT EVERYTIME I restart the truck.
When I first got the truck I had not activated the smart key option and the DINGER for the seat-belts would go out after a while. This is not the case now DINGS all the time now and asks me for the ok on every restart.
I need to SHUT OFF THAT CHIME ITS MAKING ME CRAZY...
Being in law enforcement I have seen too many reminders of what happens when you do not have your seatbelt on. Also it will get you a 124.00 dollar ticket here in Washington.
Why would somebody not wear their seatbelt? I just don't understand....
I totally agree, but some people still have lists of various reasons not to. Not that any of the reasons are necessarily valid from a safety standpoint, and none of the reasons will prevent one from being pulled over and cited in 31 of the 50 states (in 18 others, you have to do something else wrong first, and in 1 (NH) the seat belt law still only applies to children under 18).
As a retired volunteer firefighter, I've seen up close far too many examples of what happens to drivers and passengers who weren't wearing seat belts when the unexpected occurred, and got a tragic reminder a little over a month ago when a close friend was killed, and his passenger severely injured when they were in an accident in a pre-'68 vehicle with no seatbelts (legal to still be without in some states if the vehicle was never equipped with seat belts).
I'll admit I still don't wear one when I'm at the family ranch once I'm inside the front gate, since it's necessary to get out and back in the truck twice more for other gates, but there's no traffic there (save an occasional wandering cow). And when I'm there, I'm usually jumping in/out of the truck or starting/stopping the engine frequently for other things.
Before we all jump down the OP's throat for not wearing a seatbelt, maybe he has a similar situation....
I just read the section in the manual for the MyKey function. The only reference to the seat reminder is that the audio on the radio is muted until the seatbelt beltminder alarm is deactivated. I haven't activated my MyKey, so I am not sure if what he is seeing is a MyKey function or the normal seat belt reminder that is activated if you leave your belt unlatched.
I have never driven without my belt latched, so it could be either...
I guess my problem with the smart key is in fact with the seat belt minder. I would like to have the radio adjustment so I can adjust it my self over the 40% limit. I seldom drive over 80 mph so that limit is just fine.I still can not get in to the screen for the my key so I can make adjustments ??? dunno even after reading the book....

I do not use the seat belt most of the time. I have been around the funeral business my entire life. I have also seen crashes where seat belts were in fact NO help at all. (this said, what were all the other contributing factors involved ?) I have been at the scene of hundreds and hundreds of accidents and NO one accident was caused without drinking, drugs or other contributing factors in the mix) Speed is the number #1 factor in most. It should be my choice not some law maker or insurance company about weather or not I choose to have one on.Next thing they will be telling me is what time and how to sleep in a bed. I am sure with the airbags, height, weight of this truck I will fair much better than most if involved in a wreck. That said, I am also not planning on getting in one...
Personal choices are for each person, not the government to tell me what and how to do things. With over 3 million miles in a semi with no accidents I am quite sure I can drive this Pu with out worry. MY WORRIE IS THE OTHER GUY!!!! Do what ya like, and have fun, use common sense and you should get by just fine.
