I advanced the timing on the ip about 1/8 off the to lines. It does not smoke like it use to and runs better. My question is can i advance it a tad more? I do not have a temp gauge for exhaust.I just dont want to burn anything up. I use this truck daily for my landscaping business and it pulls a 18' trailer with tractors. It does blow black smoke on take offs and up hills but nothing at idle. Just trying to get a tad more power.
Not sure if i should start here but its a 87 f250 with 6.9. It has original injectors and IP. Should i change these first? would this help with power?
pump is probably getting tired, advancing it would make it feel better but, dont go to much, 1/8" at a time and mark your starting point so you can refer back to it if need be.
1/16th at a time might be safer, so you would be less likely to have to back it off after advancing. You want it to rattle just a hair more than normal when the cold advance is on.
its time for a set of injectors, rebuilt ip and then set the timing.it's about time for it's second refresh actually lol.
she's a money making truck.treat her right.you'll not only see increased performance, but fuel economy as well.
Thanks everyone for the info. I have no complaints with the truck other then the dents..lol...How would i know if timing is to advanced? I really dont hear the rattle sound when cold timing is on. Just dont want to burn anything up. Thanks
