Question Water tank level

I have a bad water tank (leaking) in my RV, so I bought a new one and Im changing it, but it has an aditament to measure the level of water inside the tank to an electrical gauge, and when I pull the two "probes" from the tank, one have some coils and resistences and the other just a coil and I noticed that this one has a plastic part broken and the coil is retracted: what is the correct name of them and where can I bougth new ones, and I can use the actual gauge with the new ones "probes"?

Thanks in advance

Hard to tell what you have from the description. You are describing the sensors or probes, but I don't have a catalog listing for them. Historically in-tank sensors are not very accurate, but you will have to at least match systems old and new for things to work. There are several manufacturers. It sounds like you have something other than the bolt and nut in rubber expansion plug.

Steve, thanks for your answer. Im going to try to take a pic of them, but yes I was searching in the internet and some call them sensors and others probes, but yes I have the bolt and nut in the rubber expansión plug and then there are a plastic pipe about 4" long, divided for a cut all the way and inside there are in one, some spring or coils and some resistances between them, and in the other just a spring, and at the bottom of thouse plastic pipes there are a plastic plug that fixes the springs and resistances or the spring in the other and the last one is broken in the part that holds the spring, one has to be the positive 12v and the other has to be (-) ground.

And you are also right, the sensors are not very accurate. Im planning this:
1.- dont intall them in the new tank, wondering if they are necessary?.
2.- Try to fix the broken part and install them again. Are there any way to check if they work outside of the tank before install them?

You don't need them and the ones installed on the exterior of the tank work much better, but cost more. You are basically changing resistance as water in the tank rises. You can check resistance change with a meter, but I don't know how to match what you find to gage calibration, unless you contact the gage manufacturer and ask for specs.

I always tell folks when you fill the tank and water runs out the fill, it's full. When you take a shower and it stops coming out, the tank is empty. Your gray water tank is full when the floor of the shower fills up and if you look down the commode, in most RVs, you can see how far the water is from the top of the tank. See, that doesn't cost you a dime.

OK, I think I got that, I wanted to NO install them again. Just curios do you have a link for that that install outside of the tank?

And yes that is a very good explanation of the "FEELING/LOOKING HUMAN GAUGE".

Thanks again my friend.
