water tank

Ok so I have a 06 f-250 6.0 diesel and run with a 12 skyline 21ft rv. Well my water tank is small in the rv when I am in the woods for 2 weeks its a pain to always run out to fill my tank. I thought I saw some people using a 20-35 gal metal water tank in the bed of the truck that does not take up much space.

I have looked online but cant find any tanks that take up limited space. Am I crazy or can some one point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Plastic would be the way to go. ensure it is made for potable water and sanitized.

Are you wanting the water for drinking / cooking or 'other' things ?

with a rarely used tank, I would be concerned about cleanliness of the tank for drinking....
and remember how heavy (and cumbersome) water can be when you consider your total towing weight, etc...

Our process is to wait until we get 'there',
drop off and setup the rv, take inventory of what we need and run to the local walmart while we go eat dinner...
we save water for the other things by picking up bottled water to drink/cook...

I built a cradle and carry a 55 gal food safe barrel ( on it's side) in my truck for hunting trips. Sometimes 2 of them. Be advised thats 1000lbs of water. I installed a shrader valve(valve stem) into the side of the barrels, near the top. When laying on their sides the valve is near the rear of the truck. I plumbed PVC valves into the top so I can fill the barrels with a faucet or hose. Removing the valve core to let out air. To transfer water to my trailer I just pressurize (in small increments) the tank to move the water thru my hose to the trailers fresh water tank. No lifting except for empty water barrel. Maybe 25 lbs. When you leave camp just open barrels and drain on ground.
PM me and I'll send you a pic.

55 gal barrel tank

Forgot to add. You'll need an air compressor. An old type tire pump will work but takes a little longer. Best of all practically no moving parts.

I will not be using it for drinking cleaning the dishes, cooking and showering. I only have a 10 gallon in the RV now. So it doesn't last at all

water tranfer tank from 55 gal barrel

Using an air hose I pump water from the back of my truck to my trailer as needed. This will lift water over 8' high. Length of water hose does not matter.
Do not over pressure and blow out the tank. I doesn't take much pressure, just volume.
Secure tank in truck first. 450+ pounds when full

Is there any tanks or a way to attach a tank under the truck bed some where? I use my bed for a couple of things, baby stuff, dogs and sometimes for my quad or motorcycles...

You could build a storage container out of large PVC pipe and make it fit wherever you find room/ build to fit.. You then could put the fill inlet in one of the stake bed holes, and drain it out near the rear bumper. You could even pressurize it to boost it where you want it. Only negative would be road trash punching a hole and you'd be empty.
You also may be able to find 30 gallon plastic tanks.
