Lost Sewer Hose

How many of you have had this happen:

I found out I did when someone started motioning to me while driving at 65MPH on the interstate.....the dumb rubber plug (dried out) end flew out of the rear bumper of the trailer and the sewer hose was dragging on the interstate....

So today I made a stop at Lowes and purchased a 10' section of 4" PVC ( drain pipe - it had the perforations on bottom) and cut it to the length I needed. Also bought 2 of the 4" twisted hangers and installed it below the bumper....

Also had to pick up the end cap for the right side and the adapter for the screw-on cap on the left side.....

Now I can be assured that the sewer hose will be there when I need it.... I just unscrew the cap and there it is:

Well, it will be when I get the new hose!!!! Total cost: under $25.00 and an hours labor!! Well, plus the cost of a new sewer hose!!!

Good work ! Looks like something I need to do as well. I put a screw in my "bumper" end cap to at least keep part of it on there. I like your idea better.

Do you have any problems with the overhang, back bumper, dragging? Or are you high enough you don't have to worry about that? I did this and drug the PVC pipe off so I flipped it and put it on top of the bumper, no problems now. Hey, glad you have a solution. As every RVer should know, RV's are "tinker heaven". If you don't tinker with it, your not satified!

The bumper is WAY HIGH! I'll know Monday AM if it's high enough....I pull it out of the driveway then to head up to New York & New England for a 2 week trip! Will have Penny be watching for sure tho.....but I don't think there'll be a problem.....got about 24 in of clearance there.....it's gonna have to be ok there....no room on top of the bumper!

I have been thinking of the same thing. I think I will mount it to the frame close to the waste outlet. I have caps you pust the center in and they lock on the ends of my bumper. I know the bumper will continue to rust if I keep putting the sewer hose in there. I would like to put more lights in my bumper so the project will be coming up soon...

Good that you used the pipe with holes to help keep it dry.

....and AIRED OUT!!!!! Phew! P-U!

Funny, I went there looking for the solid PVC and was gonna just drill a bunch of holes in bottom after I got it mounted.....but then as I looked around, there was the stuff with the holes already there!!!! ALRIGHT! And it was cheaper than the solid!

Be sure to put some anti seize on the threads of your cap. Keeps it easy to open, some sewer caps are next to impossible to open in the camp grounds....

Good work, Bud. I know a lot of RV'rs hang PVC tubes for storing hoses, carpets, even fold up ladders.

I solved this particular problem this way:

I just used a piece of 5" square vinyl fence post....bought to caps for the post...glued one end in and use a long bolt thru the other end. Drilled 1" holes in the bottom of the post ...that way I could use a socket and rachet to attached up to my frame. No losing hoses ever again. Has worked now for about 7 years.

Never lost a hose, but 6 years I got tired of replacing my hoses every year or 2, cause the inside of my bumper is abit rough and rusty, so it kepted eating my hoses, so I did exactly what you did, with a PVC piping and steel clamps, sitting on the bumper and painted it Tan to match the camper.

Heres the best pic I have of it.

If I had it to do over, I'd put a screw-on cap on the other side as well..... got to my first stop and had to use the broom to reach in and pull the hose out...

The bumper holder is really short, so I had to use a short hose. Now it's too long....LOL I can also use the awning hook to reach it.....it stayed on the screw end the next two stops......
