Thanks for the info guys. This place never ceases to amaze me with the wealth of knowledge and information available.
I'm gonna start looking into this. I replaced the bulb in the high-mount brake light last night at work. It was the wrong size and got so hot the glass melted and bulged. When it went out, it discolored and slightly melted the rubber connector. I put in the correct size.
The speedometer "flickered" again on the drive home, so that repair probably wasn't the fix I need. I'll contact the company to see what options I have.
Tried to send reps but that message says I gotta spread the love around first. I really wish that would stop.

Well, life happens. I've had quite a few changes since this started happening. During a trip to Northern Idaho awhile back, I talked with a Ford technician about my speedometer problem. He felt the PSOM or the cluster itself was failing. This answer was confirmed by several different technicians at two different Ford dealerships.
I replaced my water pump last weekend, so this issue was put off, once again. Suffice it to say that it sounds like I need to replace the instrument cluster.
The speedometer flicking on and off is REALLY getting bad. This will soon be a priority on my "To Do" list.

I had same problem...speedo jumping aroud above 50mph. Replaced VSS w/ NAPA brand and it still does it only above 70mph. My 3rd light was out and I put a new plug and bulb on. I need to get a Ford VSS and see if it fixes it. So i guess the 3rd brake light out wasn't my problem. The blub blew pretty good in the housing melted some of the bulb lens to the plasitc housing after it blew.
