hey guys pulled codes the other day and got dtc 452 which is vss bad. what are the symptoms of this? as far as i can tell neither the speedo or odometer are bad, trans shifts normal. the only thing is if i stare at it going down the road i notice just the smallest amount of speedo bounce i can tell. is this the problem i am looking at.
Maybe not a big problem at the moment and may get worse as you put more miles on the truck.
It could be just junk starting to build on the VSS and you could just take it out and wipe it off. If it happens again you might want to change rear end lube and wipe the insides out as much as you can when you change the lube.
If the VSS is clean when you take it out could be corrosion in the plug for the VSS and if you are not getting the amber RABS light coming on as you drive it might be that the caps are going bad in the PSOM.
When I had a bad VSS the speedo was jumping just slightly. When I took it out and cleaned it up it didn't fix the issue. I ended up buying an aftermarket one, still had the issue. Broke down and purchased one from the dealership and it fixed the problem now no code and I can use my cruise.
Note that the CM codes will stick around for about 80 start ups. If you have not started the truck 80 times after you cleaned the rear end these could be old codes.
Also the 452 code can be caused by VSS not seeing the tone ring for maybe one turning in the last 80 start-ups.
