E40D/4R100 Weak 2-3 shift
My truck has the E4OD/4R100 Transmission. Is there an external band adjustment on this tranny? If so, what is the torque value for the adjustment? Also how do you tell the difference between the two. Are there any differences or was it just a name change.
I will be towing pretty heavy with this truck and do not want to smoke the tranny before I get started good.
Thanks, Jim

Definitely slow enough to be considered too much "slippage" which we all know generates heat and will drastically shorten the life of any automatic. The 1-2 shift seems ok. Not a neck breaker but not prolonged enough to cause me concern. This is a stock truck and I do plan on getting the horsepower up but definitely not unil I have a good solid base for the additions. Horsepower isn't much good if you can't get it to the ground, eh?
The seller told me the transmission was replaced by Ford in the last 30 or so thousand miles. I did see a "reman by Ford" tag on the unit. He also stated it was 8-10 yrs ago so the time for any remaining warranty would be expired. The truck has been on farm duty in SC for that amount of time I know because their title was dated 2001. It currently has 132,000 miles on the engine and chassis.
Since you said there is no adjustment I will go ahead and look into a B&M shift improver kit for the tranny. If that doesn't provide the result I would like then I may invest in a Banks Trans command.
If there are any other comments or suggestions I am all ears.
Thanks Jim
