I just bought my '01 250 V-10 and it has the 4r100 tranny. The truck has 70k on it but the tranny feels very solid, other than the factory set "soft shift". I have had experience with previous 4r70w and e40d's and know they can be modified to improve the shifting and tc lockup. Has anyone had experience with being able to mke a 4r100 shift quicker without changing/tuning the computer?
Iv'e heard that this tranny is a much stronger design than the e40d and that I don't have to worry about heat as much, but I would like it to shift like a truck.
hey mdpopo, what county are you in? i am in carroll.
one thing many users do, is the Sonnax valve and Tricumulator springs. it firms up the shift points, and makes the shifts happen faster. go to www.blackclouddiesel.com , it is universal on all 4r100 and e40d trannies.
hi motorhaven has a power valve i put one in mine took about hour.firm shift not real hard i like it. what a change pulling my boat. ithink it was 54.00 $. there is a couple others out there sonax im real happy with it. good luck.
I'm in Monkey, but I work up in Fredneck, go figure...
Thanks for the info, I had been toying about doing a shift kit but had never done it before and did not know if it mattered. I talked with a guy who rebuild my 4r70w and he said the computer controlled everything. I like how blackclouddiesel shows you how to do everything yourself.
Thanks to both of you for the tip on Sonnax, I'm going to try that.

That URL has been added to my favorites. GREAT stuff! The step by step instructions are fantastic. Even a geek like me can do that install. I might go that route come spring.
Factory Tech Accumulator Valve Body by Gregg Evans, is where I got mine from, model 2c a little pricey around $225.00, but bolt and torque to spec and you still have your original to swap back in if needed, but does the same thing as the sonnex.

One of the best mods on my truck. Will chirp the tires going into 2nd and the tranny will run cooler by 15 degrees.
