1976 f250 So some wires were fried coming off the solenoid so we decided to do em up nice and put them back in their place. Now the truck will not turnoff after started. And to even start it in the first place i need to hook a random red wire to positive. Theres another random red wire that i can hook to positive in place of the other and then the truck will turn off but the light switch turns it off too. What is going on? Also i have an exuast manifold leak. Can i just epoxy it somehow. Any suggestions on products to use or manybe a different idea in general?
In your wiring you probably fried the fuseable link. It should have a plastic or rubber marker that says 16 ga on it you need to replace that wire. It also sounds like you have some wires mixed up as well. Do a search for a wiring diagram for your truck that will help with what goes where. If you work on one wire at a time it's hard to screw it up.
Your exhaust. No you cannot epoxy it. It will just burn off you need to replace the gasket if it's blown. Or replace the manifold if it's cracked. If you have an F.E. Be forwarned you probably are going to break off a couple of those manifold bolts. You really need to soak those in pb blaster for about a week not driving the truck before you try to remove them. Also use anti seize on the bolts when you put them back in so you don't have the same issue.
Figures. Of course they wouldn't have the diagrams for 77 yet. Although wouldn't the 76 model year ones work just as well for 77?
Wiring is one of the things Ford LOVED to change every year. A lot of this was because of the constantly changing emission and safety regulations. One quick check is to see if the fuse blocks are the same, if they are then the systems are probably close.
SWEET!!! Thanks Mauch1. Although I can't make use of them right now, that is definately stuff i'll need later on. The legends would be helpful, because although I spent some time in college studying electrical, I don't remember much of it (I blame the whiskey).
And after you went and saved their country.
What a world.
BTW thank you for your service.
And I don't want to hear anything about ONLY being a cook.
You da man
