Hi, my name is Brannon and i have a 66 F-100 camper special. I have a 390 in it right now. I had an electrical fire in it and fried some of the wires what i would like to do is replace all the wiring in it with larger wire. Is this difficult? do you guys have any suggestions on an easy way to do this? Anyone know how much something like this is going to run me? I would like to do it very nice and have it looking sharp if anyone has any input it would be useful. Thanks alot! Brannon
Why larger wires? What burnt up, meaning the wires around what parts? Was the fire behind the dash or in the engine compartment?
Not to hard to rewire. Get a wiring diagram and a few lenghts of the proper sized wire, splices and wire ties. Then carefully trace each wire; cut out the burnt part and replace it. You will probably need the diagram for a few of the hard to trace ones.
The fire was right behind the ignition. I have no idea what started the fire. What happened was we were up camping and i went over a rock and my truck bumped up and down and then the whole cab filled with smoke. So i really dont know. Can i but a new ignition from an auto part store? Thanks for the help! Brannon
You should be able to pickup a new igniton switch at any good autoparts store. Sounds like it was a small fire, probably caused by the power wire to the igniton switch being loose and touching some bare metal. Just a guess though
