I blocked off my egr cooler over a year ago so I assume it is not getting superheated with no exhaust going into it. What is the advantage of doing the complete delete with the crack pipe? How hard would that be to install? They are down to below $200.00 online. I assume mine can still fail with just coolant going through it but isn't that easy to spot with smoke coming out the exhaust? I have the square cooler and I know they are more prone to failure. Thanks for your help.
Did you block off both ends of the EGR cooler, or just the rear end that clamps to the up pipe? If you blocked off both ends then I really don't see a big advantage to the delete kit other than peace of mind knowing the EGR cooler can't fail if it isn't there. If the EGR cooler developes a leak then it will just fill up with coolant and effectively serve as a reservoir, providing of course you sealed up both ends water-tight.
The EGR delete kit installs can be done in about a day by a competent mechanic, two for the shade tree. But, you might as well replace the oil cooler while you got it torn down that far. Thats another couple hundred bucks. All together I spent about $700 dollars for the EGR delete, oil cooler kit, new intake manifold gaskets, engine-top filters, coolant, coolant system flush and water, and hot tanking the intake manifold. The bloody knuckles and greasy fingernails were free, though.

If you sealed it up good then save your money on the delete. You're good to go.
Bloody knuckles and greasy fingernails---priceless
Well I didn't seal up both ends so I guess I have more work to do. Can this be done withour removing the intake? Also does the EGR cooler restrict the flow of coolant in any way?

It could be done without removing the intake by using a blind gasket between the EGR cooler and the intake on the front end. There's no reason the EGR cooler will restrict coolant flow unless it's already plugged internally. It's not getting hot anymore so it won't cook your coolant either.
Randy, go to River City Diesel and look at their 6.0 EGR delete kit for $159.99 + S&H. It comes with a set of instructions with pictures on how to install the delete kit without removing the intake. You can also view the instructions on their website. When I ordered a kit for my wife's 2005 PSD I also bought one for my 2004. A failed alternator and A/C compressor are the only "Ruh Roh Raggie's" my 04 has given me. Guess what I'm doing next weekend.
But honestly, if you have to pull it down to weld in a head freeze plug in the front of the cooler, why not just go with the delete? Spend a nickel more and go first class. You won't be sorry, and your 6.0 will love you for it.
