IP pressure/ slightly off topic

4 Cyl. Perkins Diesel cut off, fuel filter full of crud, this backhoe sat for a while. Changed filter, purged lines tractor will not start. Is there a way to check IP pressure to see if it "pops" injectors? If so what should pressure be? IP was "rebuilt" maybe 100 hours ago. I imagine crud could ruin it. Will have to install poly tank. Any ideas?

IP pressures are pretty high, you can rig up a guage if you can find the right fittings. try a good hydro shop, then you just plumb the guage into the ip and crank it over a few times to get a good reading. careful when you crack the lines to releave pressure,

Did you crack the lines at the injectors to see if you're getting fuel there or not?

And if its got glow plugs pull them out and look for fuel mist, if not white smoke out of the exhaust would say so too.

I have fuel at the injectors after cracking the lines. There are no glow plugs, there is a manifold heater that is energized just before cranking. I usually place the F/R shifter in gear for a few seconds then pull it into neutral. After a few cranks it always started. This crud situation is like a red mud. I flushed out the tank when pump was gone through last time. I have so much junk and use this thing seldom.

I have a gauge set up with different fittings that with one gauge (0-100) I check fuel pressure on 7.3 powerstrokes and with another gauge (0-5000) and different fitting I can check HPOP oil pressure. I use same hose. I would like to figure a way to check this, could use it on all mechanical pumps I think. I could probably figure way to rig it, need to know an average for IP pressure.

I notice no white smoke indicating fuel, also she slows on cranking. I'm going today to get larger battery and better cables, which have never been problem. They are a little light though.

disable the manifold heater and see if it will fire off on a little bit of either

Try spraying WD40 into intake while cranking. Not as harsh as ether.

I like a mouthful of everclear to spray in the intake, if it doesn't work after the first 2 shots, who cares!

Well, after installing new battery with 900CCA and two new 1/0 cables she fired up. Also tried WD40. That's what I get for not spending any money on her just because she ain't too pretty. Those Walmart looking cables that came on it finally let me down. Thanks every one!!! I was planning for the worst. All engines need fuel, air and proper strength battery.
