99 F 150 2 wd. I have developed a steering wheel shimmy when I brake at higher speeds. It does not feel like it's coming from the peddle but up through the steering wheel. It will only shimmy when braking. If I severly down shift (manual tranny) at higher speeds it will not shimmy. I have been told to inspect the drag link and the tierods.
The front brakes were replaced last year sometime I think it was I had the OEM Made In Canada rotors turned and put on ceramic pads from Auto Zone. All was good until a couple of months ago. Thoughts? Warped rotors, tie rod or draglink?
Yep that's what mine did when the rotors warped. if Tie rods and/or drag link are bad you should have slop in the steering, be very noticeable when parked. It would also be sloppy/wondering when driving down the road.
Yea I was afraid of that but I don't know if I'm convinced. With it on the ground I checked linkage last night with a pry bar and twisted everything and it all seems tight. The crazy thing is that it just doesn't feel like its in the peddle. If I let go of the steering wheel while braking you can see it shimmy back and forth about a 1/2" but you don't feel hardly anything in the peddle. Steering feels tight going down the road. This is inconsistant with my experience with warped rotors.
