Recently I have noticed 2 steering related concerns with our van (just turning 70,000 miles).
(1) I feel "knocks" in the steering wheel, through the steering column, on some turns and on some bumps in the road.
(2) The steering wheel vibrates when I brake, and it vibrates very noticeably when I am braking from higher speeds.
The forum really did an excellent job diagnosing my last problem about a year ago and I am hoping you might have some thoughts on what may need to be addressed now.
I don't know the solution for your first problem, I'm having the same thing in my Expy, at least I think. It feels like there is slop in the steering where at certain points the resistance in the wheel gets heavier or lighter and then returns to normal? If you find out what is causing it let me know.
As for your second problem, almost without a doubt that is caused by warped rotors. You should also feel a slight pulsing in the brake pedal when you brake. When was the last time you had your brakes serviced? You might try having the front rotors turned if it's been a while since they've had work done on them.
My f150 vibrates when slowing down and I changed the rotors and it turned out it was the rear drums. If the front rotors dont make it better, take a close look at your rear set-up.
