My engine pinging during take off.
I hope some can point me in the right direction.
I have a 1996 F-150 V-8 302 with 127,000 miles and here in the last year I here valve pinging every time I fill up with new Ethanol added gas. Now, if I add octane treatment, seafoam or fill up with super unleaded I do here it. Its mainly when I get into it to pass someone or drive up a steep hill. Could there be something wrong with the engine? What about the timing should I increase it or decrease it.
Any idea's will help.
Thanks,
RLAY302
Do this with the link plug out on the distributor cable to TFI so the timing is not influenced by the computer.
Then if you still get pinging be sure the EGR is not leaking.
If ok, you can retard the timing about 2 degree to reduce it.
Even if you hear a sleight amount it won't hurt but don't go to much more or power will begin to suffer noticably.
The problem could be carbon deposits in the combustion chambers.
Good luck.
