I would think a valve on each side of the base would eliminate this.
What do you think.
I've got mine mounted low behind the left front wheel well, put gas ball valves on both side of filter head & only lose what's in the filter when I change it.

Yup, the valves are the key! I only have one on the down hill side, the uphill side is empty unless the truck is running anyway so...

What I think is that someday I'm going to get around to adding the valves I should have originally installed!

Currently, I just use a couple of "hose pinchers" while I change the filter. It works, but isn't quite as neat.

(But you should have seen me the first time!)

Signs of potassium and/or sodium point toward coolant in the oil.
In this case I think ignorance may truly be bliss, I'm going top run a 500 mile oil and coolant filter change. I'll cut them open and inspect and if everything is clean just forget about it. With 340K+ I would rather not have blackstone tell me I am driving a ticking time bomb.

Here is what my first filter looked like last month. Just coolant and a little sludge. The actual filter was just wet and rust colored. I hope neither one of us is in for a suprise.
How old was that filter Frank?

Well, if nothing else, the filter was sure doing its job. Hope it's just the o-rings.
I think I would have seen it earlier with out the filter, but it is hard to say. Evans coolant is pretty dark to start with.

I got rid of the Evans and am now running CAT ELC. The Evans was nice, 0 pressure meant no issue with sealing the thermostat housing, Not the case now.

As we speak I am running my "Evans prepped" rad cap with a hole in it because when I put my new cap on the billet t stat housing started leaking slightly more than a weep. I picked up a tube of "Form a gasket" last night so I can cure that tomorrow morning.

The cooler reseal went easy as described. I called Bob ( guzzle) to get the part numbers. The local dealership tried to gouge me for $180+ for the o rings and gaskets, I asked if they would price match and showed them a printout from Ed's site and got them for ten dollars more than he sells them. I would have loved to bought from Bob, Ed or Clay but I was in a hurry.

Pulling and installing the cooler would have been a PITA without a pneumatic ratchet for the 2 front bolts, R&R and re-ring took maybe 45 min with a good cleaning.

after seeing the condition of the cooler o-rings I think next payday I am going to throw a set of o-rings under the injectors....

With a messy filter like that, Does the coolant look like that as well in the decas tank? In other words, would you have noticed the leak as fast without the filter? Does the filter catch all the oil? Almost need a see through glass type filter, That would be cool. Quick visual.

Yup, I have one on my fuel line. Quick fast visual. Be cool to have one on the coolant. You would know almost instantly if you had oil getting in..

Just find one with the same micron filtration as the coolant filter you are using and it should be fine I think

Holy Crap!!! I will add that to my "To Do" list this weekend while under the truck. Looks like a mud bogger's filter.
