Coolant Filter and/or Flush

I just bought my truck a few weeks ago. 2006 F-350 CC LB. It has 116000 miles on it. I've done an oil change and about to change the fuel filters and do the blue spring upgrade. I wanted to put a coolant filter on also but was wondering if I should do a full flush at the time of putting the coolant filter on. I am not sure if it has ever been done on this truck. If I do the flush what type of coolant should I use the motorcraft gold or some type. ( Im not talking brand here). From the Oasis report there was something done with the coolant but not sure what it all means. I'll post a pic of it. Thanks for the help. Sorry for the side ways pics

Looks like the truck has had an Oil Cooler plug and take out the EGR Cooler and Degass Bottle

Pretty shure that was Oil Cooler on that

You Need to get some Gauges and monitor EOT and ECT Temps

ECT=Engine Coolant Temp
EOT=Engine Oil Temp

Get some gauges and we will walk you threw it testing the Coolers

ScanGaugeII is about 150.00 from autozone or SG Dealer and well worth it

Let the Gauge decide how far to take the Coolnt work Sometimes a Flush will plug oil cooler so best to know where you stand and go from there you may want to use cleaners you may Not depending might just need a Coolant swap

Definatly install a coolant filter for Now

Lots swap to an ELC=Extended Life Coolant check my Sig Below

here is the part# I have for an Oil Cooler

3C3Z 6A642 BB /-------------------------------------------------Oil Cooler (11th Row Added)*

Yours is a Touch Diff at the Last couple letters but they update the part#s from time to time

That Said I feel pretty shure you had an OIL COOLER & EGR COOLER changed once already so lets hope your cooling system got flushed and cleaned out and the new one is still Good this is where the Gauge comes in you can Test and Verify

You maybe in good shape

Iv seen some buy a truck to Inherit someone else problem they find out it need coolers and dump it looks like your been taken care of in that department

How long ago was that work Done????????????

I have a scan gauge. When up to temp the deltas are not more than 10 degrees. It's usually around 5-6. The work was done in jan of 2011

A few well respected sources here say the coolant filter isn't necesary. My truck was one with heavy casting sand in it. For what a coolant filter system cost, I think it's a cheap gamble on your side. As my buddy says, Do you feel lucky today?

Sweet

Id probably just do some distilled water flushes (NO Cleaners) and go with an ELC

Some folks that have used cleaners have plugged there oil cooler so throw some caution there Plus your Deltas Look GREAT No Need to fix something that isnt Broke

My Coolant filters been lasting Longer with ELC

ELC must be rated like this

ELC CAT EC-1

some have silicates some do Not

International uses ELC called Fleetrite in there 6.0L and had less oil cooler failure cant remember if it had silicates or not

Silicates are up for debate so I choose a ELC that was Silicate frree called Final Charge and Oreiylies got it for me

But there is alot of Diffrent brands of ELC out there as long as they are rated what I mention earlier then any brand is Fine

Make shure you get 4 Gallons FULL STRENGTH Not 50/50 mix the truck hold about half the water even with drains pulled so Use 3.5Gallons Full strength top off disstilled water and your Good to Go

So was Mine Oil Cooler plugged Solid with Casting sand

Plus he has already had 1 Oil Cooler and EGR Cooler Go Bad I think he is a Good Canidate for a Coolant filter IMO

I think some that say dont need a Coolant filter just Got a Clean Block and didnt have the trouble some of us Had and they could have flushed often as well

The Majoirity of us Had no Idea Coolant flushing/Change was so Important on a 6.0L (Some folks vehicles only got a Coolant change During Majoir Overhaul with Past vehicles they owned ) so those that Flushed coolant early in the Game were Leaps and Bounds ahead

Nowing what I know now if I bought a 6.0L new I would have flushed the Coolant in the First 500 miles
