Hey guys, my trans is making some nasty noises and shifts like poop... Just before it is ready to shift it is making a strange noise like a rattle/vibration. It shifts fine from 1st to 2nd with only a slight rattle, however it won't shift into 3rd untill about 70kms/45mph and doesn't like to stay there? It really wants to sit in 2nd. Needless to say whatever economy it has is tossed out the window. Could this be in need of a rebuild? or is it something I can fix? Btw I just changed the fluids and filter and it helped a little bit but not as much as I had hoped, any thoughts are greatly appreciated!!
When you do pull it,you might want to think about a shift kit. I have used them in evey trans, C6, dodges, and now in my 03 2500 ram diesel. I think they help in the longevity of them. There's also a mod for using the E40D forward gear cluster for a lower 1st and 2nd with 3rd gear remaining 1:1. John
A shift kit will definitely improve the life of your trans. It basically reprograms the shift characteristics so that the clutches engage quicker, getting rid of the normal "slip" that was built in by the factory for comfort. When they design something like a trans, it's a balancing act between keeping them running and making them "comfortable" for the average consumer. Think of it in these terms: which will keep a standard transmission clutch alive longer??? Slipping the clutch every time you let it out, or just letting it out and getting it hooked up without slipping???? Another auto transmission "saver" is adding a good cooler................
