C6 Rebuild help

C6 Rebuild help
Ok so I bought a 66' f100 and it has a C6 with 2nd gear slipping huge.
I have a guy who will rebuild it but not sure what to ask for.
I know there are shift kits.. but have no exp with them.
Should I expect machine shop work? or specifically ask for it?
He has done work for me and gave me a rebuild price around $725
Engine is supposedly rebuilt 360 but no info and shifter is on the coulumn.
lil funky but works....He says he can make shift points more refined.
I have no PRNDD2D1.
Then I see you can buy ready to go tranny.
Any foresight appreciated.
