I've got a loud squeal that starts at 2k rpm on my '00 v10......It started a couple days ago and seems like its gotten worse.
Its not the belts or pullies, it sounds like its coming from behind the engine. shifts fine....runs fine.....Im ata loss
any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like transmission pump is starting to fail. How many miles on your Ex? Mine died at 186,000 miles. Still shifted fine but sounded like a failing water pump to me. Shop diagnosed it using stethescopes.
check your belt tensioner/idler pulleys. i wrongly replaced my power steering pump because i had a bad idler pulley that was squealing. the pulleys are very easy to replace.
oops i didnt read your post all the way through. sorry
I did not tackle the pump myself. My mechanic gave me a quote of $1500 but he also expressed concern that other internal parts could be failing too. Since I had over 185,000 on my Ex and I intend to keep it I opted for a rebuilt transmission with a warranty. Final cost $3,800.
Turns out it was the exhaust manifold gasket on the passenger side......I've had a couple broken studs and the gasket had seperated and was making the loud squeal/whistle.
changed the studs and gaskets today and its pefect now.
