I've finally got enough extra parts to build a pulling truck, I've got a 6.9 engine. a 94 year 250 4X4 chassis, C6 auto 4.10 gears. I want to build it to be a play truck to see how tough these trucks really are. I will have built it out of extra parts that I saved from the junk pile. so I'm not messing up a good truck. which I hate to see happen.
I want one, but we have yet to see just how well they do with turbo engines, and there might be a better regrind for turbos so im gunna sit on that one a bit, talked to a guy at comp off and on, hes really curious about the diesel camshaft and looking into more research. I did find out a new grind would be ballpark $2000... so that option is likely out. Which is kind of a bummer as from what i understand, our camshafts resemble something you would find in a small block. My main concern is overlap, which our cams dont have, and you cant regrind overlap into a cam that doesnt have any, obviously. Right now im looking into rockers and pistons that can be used to swap on our engines. Would be nice to upgrade to forged pistons and a longer ratio rocker to help our wee little cam out. On that note, anyone know what ratio our rockers are? Other than that trying to find something to advance the cam timing a couple degrees, should help everything, excluding emissions. But let me know if you have any other interesting ideas. There are a couple of us in here that are frowned upon for pushing the limits, and inventing new ones on these beloved engines. We would be glad to have another. Two things to look into, piston heat, and lack of fuel. Forged pistons would alow for egts in the 1600+ range depending on material, vs. 1200. Next im on to trying to find a viable canadate for a replacement injection pump, someone mentioned the Stanadyne db4 but i havent heard more on it in a while.
Another neat idea i was kicking around, for a pulling motor, or race motor of some sort, would be a blower application.... Instant boost.. Can you say 500 pound ft. at 1300rpms? I think with our low rpms, a 6-71 would do the job nicely, if you can get it to fit around the injector pump that is.
They did pull that 1200hp idi and quickly got outlawed, thats how it found its way into a drag truck. and look into water injection and and lp gas, for some extra help
