I went to the truck pulls today and was really disapointed. There was only one ford there and it ran like s h i t I want to build one and show the dodges FORD can run too! Where do I start???
pffft...you dont need a PSD or a 460. These engines have low HP, which is for speed, they have huge amounts of torque! I have seen a lot of fords with 6.9/7.3's in them(my buddy jared for example) at a truck pull and he outperformed D-Max, early PSD's and GM 6.5's.....he has custom studded heads, 4" exhaust on his turbo, and a ram air intake....Banks non-wastegated sidewinder.

X2 on the large bank account.
There is a reason you don't see a lot of idi's at truck pulls, bogs etc, it is the mentality of the average idi owner.
Most of us run these things for the simplicity and economy, plus we don't like big payments, intentially destroying them is just not on most of our minds.
Ya around here theres butt loads of 800hp cummins, its just too hard to compete with them. However like what was stated before anything is possible with a large checkbook

The key is to get your speed up as fast as you can so you have momentum to help you at the end of the track. Ive seen a few IDIs do well in pulls. The best one was a 6.9 with a 4spd. The engine started to run away as it burnt its own oil and the guy got a full pull and beat all the other trucks. Theirs a video of it on youtube. At the end he stalled the engine out and i heard he was able to drive it home no problems.
Seen lots of them, but never tried one yet. I'm kind of thinking that with these trucks, if you were running an auto, low range would be best? Get the truck going as fast as one can as quick as one can?
Let the auto do what it wants, i will up shift plenty fast, and kick down if the track bites. And I'm not sure how easy the sled starts for a pickup, the lightest I've pulled is 12,000 farm stock and let me tell you some sleds start like a bit%^. For my tractor to save the clutch, as soon as the wheels start to turn you dump it, I tried to slip it out once and heard a godawful squeak come from it. If you pull one of those Ironman sleds be prepared for it to start hard!
