Ordered A New Sewer Hose

The sewer hose that came with my trailer started leaking at the RV end of the hose. That's a bad place so I just ordered a new hose. I thought it interesting that a majority of the hoses I looked at have non-clear elbows where the hose goes into the sewer pipe. I like to have a good look at what's still coming out. Not that I'm cataloging the discharge but it's good to know when it's REALLY clear.

I also ordered new locking clips for the top of the awning beam. My trailer is 12 years old and one of the locking clips was so brittle that it broke off the last time I tried to use the awning.

A new Progressive Industries Portable RV Surge Protector Portable EMS-PT30X RV Surge Protector was purchased also. I don't camp in campgrounds with hookups that often. But I don't want to have my electrical system fried by a bad source of power. I considered getting the hardwired one but that's just more weight in the trailer that gets used once out of thirty nights I'm camping.

I seem to always end up buying the rhino brand slinky at WalMart. They work well for me and I've never had one leak, though a disgruntled worker once put a cut in one with a weed eater. The ends are red, but I have a clear section that attaches to the camper end and serves to let me know when the water is running clear.
The surge protector is a good idea, though it's real value for me is the protection it offers from brown outs, or low voltage. I used to have a portable, but left it hanging on a power pedestal at a military campground in North Carolina. I'm thinking of installing a hard wired one so I can't leave it behind.

The hose I ordered is a Camco. It comes in two 10' sections. I haven't needed more than 10' so far. My toy hauler doesn't have a dedicated storage location for the sewer hose. I have to cram it into the storage compartment where the fuel nozzle/hose is stored. It's real tight. I hope the new one fits.

You can make a storage "compartment" for the sewer hose and fittings pretty easily. Buy an 8' long vinyl fence post (5" x 5" square) along with 2 end caps. Then get a 10' section of vinyl gutter like you would put on your house.....along with the 2 end caps for it. Mount the fence post under the trailer from side to side and the vinyl gutter will slide right into it....a perfect fit. I used metal strapping to mount the fence post to the frame of the trailer and also made the end cap on the working end, lockable. There was room for two 10' section of sewer hose plus the 90 degree clear elbow.

That's a pretty slick setup you have there. I did add a hose holder using the Valterra pipe. The only place I could find to install it was between the two fuel tanks. It's such a pain to get to that I only keep the extension hose there. The brochure for my trailer says there is supposed to be sewer hose storage but I can't find it.

Thank you. I wish I could take credit for the idea, but I saw it on one of the RV forums I'm on and I ran with it. Mine worked out really well. The storage tube is located about a foot away from the sewer hookup on the trailer, so basically slide it out and hook it up. I made the gutter just long enough to hold two 10' sections, which left me plenty of room once it's slid in, to put the clear 90 at the end of the tube. I've thought about painting it black or gray, too kind of match the trailer, but haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

That is a pretty awesome hose storage location.

Side question, what forum are you on for RVing? We got our TT last year and I haven't found a good forum.

That's a good question to ask. When I got my trailer (used) I searched and searched for a dedicated forum and came up empty. Fleetwood's trailer company went bankrupt and the current Fleetwood company won't even talk to you if you have a trailer. So I'm an orphan.

I'm on RV.net, but I'm there like once a year, if that. Most of my questions get answered here in the towing sections of the FTE forum.
