Strange Fuel Pump Problem

According to the block stamp, my F100's engine is from a 75 Econoline. It's a 300 6 cyl. When I got it I ditched the fuel pump and lines, knowing they were clogged with rust and crap from the old tank. Since then I've installed two new pumps, both of which give me the same trouble. They simply pump very little. Not much more than a dribble into the filter, and of course the carb starves. I've ruled out filters and lines as a possible source. Today for the hell of it I tested both pumps just by cranking the lever by hand, and they both shot gas like crazy. Just won't do it on the engine. Any ideas?

Chunks of crap in your carbs inlet? Or the same in your float needle seats.

The sock/filter on the end of your pickup tube in tank is more than likely clogged.

Put the feed line into a can of gas and see how it acts, that will tell you if you have a problem from the pump back to the tank.

X2 on the "sock" filter in the tank. A less likely problem is a worn camshaft lobe.

Having (I think) eliminated all other possible sources of the problem, such as lines, filters, I have it down to 2 possibilities: a worn cam lobe or the wrong fuel pump. I notice in looking at the parts online that the fuel pump for the '74 version of my engine has a straight arm, while the new one I have for my engine (which the ID stamp says is a '75) has the bent arm. The straight arm would mean a lot more contact with the lobe. The one I have, with the bent arm, has very little contact with the lobe, based on the wear on the finish of the arm and the amount of fuel pressure it's putting out. I wonder if it's possible my engine takes the '74 pump? Anyone every encounter this before? The pump that was in there, when I got the truck, might have given me a clue, but like a damn fool I threw it away along with the old lines when I took them out.
