I have a 2005 6.0 and it runs rough when oil is cold, and then runs fine after warmed up, or so I think. I switched to Shell Rotella 5W-40 T6 Fully Synthetic and the problem is still there. I replaced the FICM 5months ago. The truck goes to International Fuel Systems in a week to get a diagnosis, they will test everything and they told me over the phone it probably has injector sticking spool valves and it will probably need new injectors. Any input on the REV-X additive other people say that will probably fix the problem and not have to spend 2800 bucks on 8 injectors. THANKS FOR REPLY!!!
Ya oil smells normal just went out and started it. It starts fine and idles great just misses and shakes and blows a haze of blue white smoke when you idle up to 1500 rpms and wont hardly go down the road. You hafta let off gas for it shift until it gets warmed up
I have an 04 250 with 150k. Purchased it a few months ago and it had the same issues you describe initially. Wouldn't shift when cold and ran like a three legged dog for the 1st 5 miles. Then it was perfection. Then the EGR cooler blew, but that's another story (installed Bulletproof oil & EGR coolers over two weekends-with lots of reading on FTE). I'm still working through the items but I have seen significant improvement by replacing the ICP sensor and getting the latest flash. I had the dealership diagnose last month when they flashed me, and they tell me the driver's side bank is 'bad.' I ordered Rev-X today and plan to switch to syn 5w-40 next week. Hoping to not have to replace the injectors for a few more years. Based on the multiple hours of reading through threads, you're probably going down the right road - but I would at least give the Rev-X a shot. $65 for two bottles is a small investment compared to injectors.
Right now I'm mainly confused by the extremely high lie-o-meter and Scan Guage MPG readings (>25 mpg) I'm getting after replacing my ICP sensor, but that's another thread...
I have my EGR cooler welded shut, and the egr valve is just there so the computer thinks its working. I didnt go with a delete kit I just took the cooler off and welded it shut completely so no gases flow through period. Other than that it is bone stock yet , just has 4'' straight exhaust and cold air intake. I hope my guy will find a cheaper fix than replacing 8 injectors DAM
I put 8 in my excursion for the same concern. What a night and day differance in how it runs. If you sweet talk the local ford parts guy he may sell you all 8 at cost plus 10% which is 220 an injector but I recommend going for all 8 if you are going to try and get a deal.

I am surprised you have an 05 with an egr deleate and it dont throw codes usually even with the egr valve plugged in the pcm picks up on it because ebp and IAT2 dont change when the valve opens
on the injectors they should run a cylinder balance test to determine if indeed there are bad injectors so you shouldnt have to replace all 8
with your milage unless its missed oil changes or fuel pressure is low
I bought the truck with 58,000 on it and the previous owner wrote everything in the book that he did, so i' m guessing all was done perfect and on time. I have never had the service engine light come on at all, guess i' m lucky huh. I' m sure there's codes on the computer since it runs like **** when cold. I will find out next Wednesday whats up with the dam thing. I change Oil every 100 engine hours. I cant wait to post what is wrong with it. THANKS a lot guys
I' m also thinking about getting a MACH 7 chip from HYPERMAX ENGINEERING after I get it fixed. Hypermax is the king of International engines. Google Hypermax if you haven't heard of em!!!!
