So when i redo my truck as many of you know allready, im painting it like a 50/50 ice cream bar. I have a 1974 F250 4X4. I just found a 1979 painted like this but has the racetrack molding and of course a different grill....
Whats your opinion on the best looking one? And do ya think i should swap grill and leave the 74 F250 on the side with the racetrack molding and add FORD to hood? Or just keep the 74 grill?
BTW. My truck will have all chrome possible 4 that model year. Rocker panels, tailgate moldings.etc unlike 2nd link
a while ago someone posted a poll on what we all thought was the best looking grill, turns out noone can agree alot like the 78-79 for its cleaner look and some like the 73-75 grill for its agreesive look i personaly like the 76-77 the best but in the end its up to you and what you want to look at everyday
I like them both. I have a 79 Bronco so i have both looks right now..... What im thinking about doing is....
Ive always wanted a super cab 4X4 lifted. Im thinking after i get this one restored and i have money again, ill buy a super cab from 73-75 and then make it look like a 79 with the 79 grill and square headlights. Ill paint it the scheem in the first link, and then ill have matching trucks!
when it comes to dents you cant go wrong and im going to get those pictures of the spare tire holder AND the gas tank tomorow for ya lol i havnt forgotten just havnt had a chance to get out and take em
Far too funny, I have the same dilemma (both grills are sitting in the garage waiting for me to pick one) and am getting my '79 supercab painted the same orange and white on Monday. Yay for paint. Do you know if the orange and white was a factory color option and if so, do you know the paint codes? I don't really care if it's painted factory correct but it would be nice to know so I can give the painter some guidelines.
Nothing wrong with any of them. Im personally partial to the pre-78 grills. I like the inserts on 75 and earlier the best, but I like it all ultimately.
IMO of course, stick to as original on your truck as possible! There is a guy down the road piecing together a 75 79 and 95. How sad it is too, any way I think thats what makes these trucks distinct. Thats also how we ID them easiest. I would really like to see you paint job when all said and done so let us know.

Im 99.9% sure it isnt factory.... I know the 74 was orange and 2 tone yellow... Ya gotta post a pic of urs when its painted! I really wana go buy a supercab right now but that aint going 2 happen.lol

Y when its fully restored (hopefully by 2012) ill make a thread with pics from when i got it through every stage untill complete
And im currently going with the 50/50 bar (orange and white) scheem. Im going on vacation here soon so im planning on ordering new wheels and tires to put on when i get back..... Then i have shoulder belts being installed with a 38-40gal rear tank.... After that its getting a small 2-2.5" lift.
