I have a 77 F250 Custom and would like to change the grill to a 79.
My question is can just the center pice be changed or does the whole grill have to be changed? I saw it in a Truck Magazine. It was a 77 with a 79 grill ,But it didn't go into detal about the swap.
Thanks Don
to my knowedge the centers should be interchangeable. There's a left and right side to the 77, not sure about the 78-79. But the section of the grill you're pulling out goes to the headlights. Not sure if that's what you mean by the whole grill or not. I think LMC truck or NPD has some pictures of the parts, so you might get a better idea of the differences from them.

Reason: forgot to add something
There are a few things you will have to change. The shell has to be changed for the one piece grill that is on the 78/79, the headlight buckets if you opt to use rectangular headlights and the parking lights will no longer be on top, they will be below the headlights. Also, its kind of a pain to get to the bolts behind the lights, I had to go in from the fender(you will have to drop the liner) and pull them off like that. Good luck to you with the swap.
