3inch plenums

Found these 3inch plenums on a 7.3L in the junkyard.

Any benefit to using 3 inchers when I build my intercooler setup?

Sorry for the big pictures, not sure how to make them smaller....

I don't know much but if you use them you have to get a bigger turbo. Our inlets are 2 1/2 inch or maybe its there 2 3/8's. They went to 3" in the SD but I've 'heard' that the SD turbo's aren't as good? They don't have anything to do with the intercooler.

Okay. I thought our intake plenums were only 2inch?

Yeah, I'm not ready to change out the turbo. That might happen after the stages II's.

Ya, I think your right, 2 inch. But the turbo is 2 3/8's, that's why the tapered boots.

I put 3 on mine. Not a good idea with the stock charger. Im trying to figure out how to make the outlet for the turbo and an intake y that isn't gonna hit each other. At the moment I mod the stock y pipe to work with them.

Actually they have to do with the IC set up in some way, because the stock spyder is 2" OD, the early 99 spyder is 2 3/8" OD so you need the tapered boots and the late 99 is 3" OD that goes according to the 3" OD SD plennums. And the normal IC pipes are 3" OD.

Glenn, you take an OBS wheel and shove it into the SD turbo. All good then with no lag. They sell that as a Wicked Wheel.

Grabbed those 3 inch plenums from the yard today. Gonna build my own intake Y for a intercooler setup.

Got an intake Y (intercooled style) off a larger international that had the 3inch plenums, the only problem is the inlet of the Y comes in from the top, not the side like we need. So I'm gonna try to cut it off and Tig a 90 on it.

This will probably be a PITA, so I'll just try it from 3 inch exhaust tubing.

I'll get Pics tomorrow.

Now, I'm not planning on using this aluminum intake, but it shows what came off the engine from the yard.

What is the SIZE of the turbo outlet? I'm looking for a V-band piece I can weld onto, to start the intercooler. Is it 2 3/8" or 2.5 inch?
