Ford Fleet has specs back to 2002 here
https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...02_default.asp

You can also look on the hitch, it should be printed there. Be careful the 2000 model had a lower tow rating and if your 2001 is just a late 2000 model run, you could have the lower rated hitch. Research carefully, as tounge weight will be the key factor.

Why did it jump a 1000lbs from 01 to 02? Ours is a like an April build I think. The class 3 hitch has a weight number on it?

Biult in 10-00. Found the sticker says 10000 on it.

Another question, min excursion has 6 leafs in the springs stack. Is that the normal amount?

Ford made the mounting bolts and shear bolts larger to make the rear hitch, which acts as a safety bar for small cars stronger. The side benefit was a higher hitch tounge weight capacity.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Sounds like the hitch is what limits the capacity.
