Rotella Oils

Preston Ford (Preston Md.) large p/u dealer, says Ford TSB states Rotella oil sold at "Walmart" stores does NOT have the required antifoaming agents. This is important when pulling under load.

Anyone have any duplicate notices/info -- please post

First off the API donut with the rating tells you this. If it is CI4+ rated you are safe to use it in your truck, I don't care if it is the super tech brand that wal-mart sells. Ford puts out a specification change to the proper lubrication oil, under a Ford spec, WSM bla bla. Then the American Petroleum Institute Defines, without revealing trade secret info for all of the oil manufacturing companies to conform to the standard. They cannot place the API donut on the container if the oil has not passed the API test for the new classification. Plain and simple, to ease your paranoia over this matter, any bottle of oil that is 15W40 and has the rating of CI4+ is more than adaquate for your trucks engine. If you would have read your owners manual you would also know that it is ok to run CI4, or CH4 if the first 2 are not available. I think your dealerdhip is trying to make a buck off of you selling you overpriced conoco-phillips oil in a Ford motorcraft bottle, along with the oil change fee. Run whatever you want, If you want a better explination, or are still not satisfied with these answers, go to the American Petroleum Institute website. They will have and in-depth defination of all of the API ratings.

I'm running their synthetic in both of my diesels, have decreased my oil changes by 50% and see a dramatic cold start improvement using the 5W40 syn vs 15W40 dino.

I'm amused at how this Rotella oil would be any different sold at Wal-Mart, than the Rotella sold at Shell Stations? Do you happen to have any TSB numbers for this? This is bizarre, and I realize you are just repeating what you've heard. Does this mean Motorcraft oil filters from Wal-Mart is different than the oil filters (Motorcraft) sold at the Ford dealership? LOL. I've heard it all now! ... Ed
