Issues with SCT Programmer vs Other Programmers
I have an 05 Excursion and just put some 37" Toyos on it so now my speedo is off by about 16%. Now my dilemma is I purchased a SCT X3 programmer thinking I could change the gear ratios and tire size. But it does not work. I have been told and everything that I have investigated tells me that Ford speed sensors on the Excursion go through the ABS module and SCT programmers do not alter this signal at all. I was also told that I would have to take it to Ford and have the speed readjusted by their software. Or another option is Superlifts Truspeed which goes in line with the speed sensors just before the ABS module. Is this the only way?? Or is there another programmer (Hypertech, Superchip, etc.) that does the speed modification?
I have heard from a local shop that he changed his excursion with a hypertech (I think) and he has done this several times to SD and Ex's both. Has anyone made this mod and is it working for them, or any suggestions at all.

Hmmm,
IIRC, my sct will adjust revs/mile for tire differences, but think it only affects the tranny shifting, not the speedo.... take it to the dealer to get the one time adjustment done....
my new tires were close enough in diameter to the opold that I really don't need to adjust my speedo....
curious that my speedo shows 3 mph faster than my scangauge ... thought it would be the same obdII signal ?!?

According to the dealer, the gray/black wire going into the ABS module is the one coming from the speed sensor. SCT doesn't modify the signal, and Superlift's TruSpeed has to be placed in series (cut the Gray/black wire and install between). The TruSpeed can be infinitely tuned to the correct speed regardless of gears or tire size. Just wanting other people's input on this.
I can adjust the revs per mile (which should be 540-545 for 37"tires) and I can change the gear ratio. But I see no change on the speedo when I change these settings either gears or revs.....no dice. And I don't feel a difference in performance.

Sweet, I have been looking at the TruSpeed since I already have the SCT, and the TruSpeed appeared very easy to install and calibrate according to the manual. So if it works awesome, then I'll probably just keep the SCT and just get the TruSpeed.
Also nice Ex....love it!

Well I was going to order a TruSpeed (Superlift). Went to my local 4x4 shop and inquired about it being as he is a Superlift dealer. He flatly refused to sell me one. He says they are a big pos! He's seen way to many of them fail and he doesn't want irrate and unhappy customers. I'm surprised as I have seen several users on here have them and haven't heard complaints.
He says he's heard good things about Jet performance's Accu-Speed, but he has not installed one. Anybody use one of these? And how is your experience.

Well Purchased the AccuSpeed
Well I purchased the AccuSpeed from Jet Performance. Like the Superlift TruSpeed it works basically along the same principal. It has 4 wires, 1 for 12v positive, 1 for ground, the other two goes in series with the speed sensor wire. You cut the wire in this case at the ABS module and connect one wire coming from the speed sensor on the axle and the other goes to the other wire going to the ABS module. Pretty simple right, except the Excursion ABS module is just behind the driver's side headlight inside the engine compartment, and of course the plug is on the bottom side. After a failed attempt to remove everything on that side and not wanting to mess up any brake lines I found the wire loom on the fender and tapped into it there. Much easier.
Next I preset the module by turning the adjustment screw several turns to a predetermined amount according to the directions. Went for a test drive and did some fine tuning and its dead on with my GPS.
I will let it ride for several months and see how it does and give a final thumbs up or down and any other comments. But so far so good. Ooh yeah final price shipped to the house $162.00 which was cheaper than the TruSpeed.
