AC Compressor Swap Question...

Ok, before anyone jumps on me, yes I did search. I just couldn't find the answer to my specific question. My old York compressor is an absolute pig, like everyone with air in these trucks is fully aware. The vibration drives me nuts, and the drag on my engine drives me completely insane. On the upside the AC is cold as ice. That all said, I've been reading up on the Sanden compressor swaps and my question is this: if I get the compressor and the adapter bracket I don't need anything else? I currently have fully functional AC, and plan to retain it as R12 because it cools much better than 134. Anyone that has done this do you have any more insight into the process? I'm under the impression it kinda goes like this:

- Take truck to AC shop to have system evacuated
- Bring truck home, remove York compressor and rig up as a boat anchor
- Install adapter bracket for Sanden compressor
- Install Sanden compressor to bracket
- Hook original hoses to Sanden compressor
- Drive truck to shop and have system charged with R12.
- Profit??

Is there anything I'm missing? Will the original factory hoses hook right up to the Sanden? Any info would be great!

Joe

The hose connections are the only thing I can think of that will be an issue. Sorry, I can't say for sure if they will work or not. I really doubt it, though.
The Sanden uses Oring fittings at the inlet and outlet, and I "think" the York uses 37 degree refrigeration flare fittings. You will likely need to have new hoses made up to mate with the Sanden.

The GM guys have it easy when it comes to swapping compressors (Pre-1979). There are now 2 drop in, bolt on replacements available for their old A6 compressors. One is a Sanden clone and the other is basically a Ford FS-6 (10p17c Nippondenso). Those smug b******s.
