I've got the right side tore down replacing bearing and seals. There is a ton of sand gooped up in the axle tube. I've seen the home made "rake" but its not very effective. Any ideas on cleaning it out?? I thought about draining the diff and flushing tube with degreaser but am apprehensive about contaminating diff itself.
If it were me, I'd pull the front cover and make sure nothing made it into there anyway.
Then, I'd remove the carrier, and HOSE (yes, water and soap/spray degreaser) the tube out.
That much sand is not a good thing. It could have taken the oil seal out that's deep inside the tube, water got in, who knows. Either way, the only real way to clean all that stuff out is to use pressure from inside the carrier housing.
