bearing seals
If that's the case, the only thing I can think of is that the vent tube is blocked. The tube is there to let the dif "breath". The dif heats up and cools down as you drive/stop or go through water, and the vent tube allows the pressure to escape. If this is blocked, the pressure will build up and force the lube out of the axle seals. The vent tube is the rubber hose that comes off the axle where the 3 brake lines meet on the driver's side.
Another possibility is that dirt/sand is getting in the axle through the vent tube and wearing out the seals.
Metal shavings from worn gears or improperly set backlash could also be eating up the seals.
Hope this helps!
