I believe I have ended my search for the short bed. I contacted a friend in the auto body biz to see what paint work would cost when I buy a bed. He said he knows a source for the bed. He did the estimate for bed, body/paint work and install. Told me he found a color match bed too so it may not even need paint. It will be at his shop on Monday for me to inspect.
Anyway, the point here is that I was willing to spend $2400 for a rust free bed and then have it painted.
His estimate for bed, paint/body work and install was cheaper than $2400.
So, contact a few local body shops to see what they can do?
I actually just took delivery of my short bed today. I got the bed, tail gate, and tail lights. The bumper that came with it is getting shipped backed because It got messed up in shipping and he is sending me another.
I paid 1600 for everything, including shipping to NY from Dallas.
I will have to paint the bed, and a few spots on the truck to get it back to good condition. I am going to try and get the bed on the truck in the next few days, then go and shop around a few body shops and get some quotes.
If anyone can recommend a place on Long Island, I am in Suffolk County in Northport, I would be open to suggestions.
Thanks for the info Mike. Where are you located and where is the bed coming from??
Hi Dennis, I'm in Michigan. Not sure where the bed is coming from. I was told it's rust free. It should be in today for me to inspect. Fingers crossed...
