Need Advice On Bed

Hey guys where else to come to when ya need advice on how to spend your money but here!

I have been on the search for a short bed for my 2001 F350 for quite some time now. I found a guy who will sell me a newer f series style bed with a new tailgate, the style that says super duty on it, for $2400 shipped to my house. The bed is brand new, never used, in the original crate.

Here is the thing, the tail gate does not come with the handle, or locking mechanisms or rods or anything. The bed is just a bare bed, no rail caps nothing.

I would have to buy new tail lights, wiring harness, bumper, bumper brackets, and everything to make the tail gate functional.

Then I would have to paint the bed.

Do you all think this is worth it? I paid $6000 for my truck the way it is in my sig. I like the flat bed but to be honest it just doesn't work for me for what I use the truck for.

Tell me what ya think guys please!
Dennis

wow only $2400.00 for a bed that isn't complete!
here in Arizona beds are 2-500 range a lot of them taken off new for service trucks.
no rust here! don't know about freight charges but might be worth a little time to search the southwest area and check shipping.
when I pulled the bed off of my '99 to put my service body on I just took the old bed to the metal recycler to get rid of it.

I just picked up a painted take off with tail lights, and no dents for $400. I would keep looking.

So how much do you think I would be able to find a take off bed for?

I mean every thing in NY is so freaking expensive haha.

I will start looking out west, do you know of any places first hand that I could look at?

Thanks
Dennis

Just keep searching craigslist. Search in multiple cities.

Even if you find one 500 miles away, you will still save money by driving to get it.

I just sold my extra 2006 short bed last week for $1500. I would have much rather sold it to someone on here like yourself. What color is your truck because there is a place close by me that has a couple of new take off short beds they are trying to sell

My truck is the darker ford red. I don't really care about the color, I would like to paint the truck when I get the new bed on.

I cant believe the deals you guys are finding. I am not in a huge rush to find a bed so I can just keep looking everyday and try to find something.

I would not mind getting a brand new one though, that would be awesome. I would spend 1500 bucks on a new take off with tail lights and a tail gate in a heart beat.

First guy to find me a short bed gets a 5 cases of beer!

Dennis
Thanks for the help guys

Hey can anyone tell me up to what year bed I can put on my truck. I hear people saying 99-11. But then I heard people say that 10 or 11 beds are different and the wheel wells are different?

Thanks everyone!

If I remember reading in an earlier post, the 11 beds will fit and the wheel well openings are bigger as well as the much larger fuel door.

The 11 have a molded line around the rear wheel opening that would be different from your front wheel opening. But for the most part they still look the same.

Keep searching Craigslist, persistence is the key. It took me a solid 6 months to snag the deal I found. I would look more towards the south for beds that haven't had to deal with the road salt.

Dennis, I'm in a salt state too. Also looking for a 2001 short bed. Been searching locally for over a year. Nothing worth looking at yet. Long boxes are much more common.

This place has them from time to time but they are around $2200 without shipping
Southern Truck sells rust free GM, Chevrolet, GMC, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Toyota, Mazda, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan truck parts and also does truck restorations and customized paint jobs.

I've decided I'm going to locate one in the south and just make a fun road trip outta the deal. I like my truck too much to just let it go to/look like hell

BED!

Figured I would get this back to the top.

Still on the search for a bed, anyone have any leads on a short bed for a 2001 F350. A case of beer goes to the winner!

Thanks again guys!
