hey has anybody ever put a turbo from a powerstroke on one of these trucks? i have a turbo from a 95 laying around and was wondering if it would be possible to fab it up without the pedestal or something to work on my 6.9
thanksguys! yeah i figured i would have to make my own exhaust piping up and down and maybe even change the manifolds or make new ones but i might just try it just for the heck of it lol
you can use the current manifolds. But yes it requires a good bit of fab work. If you do it throw pics up. And throw pics of the current bad boy on here.
thanks again guys lol im workin in gettin pictures up but my phone is down for awhile and no camera haha. yeah i figured on tons of fab work but im allready fabing up a 3.5 inch exhaust. but it runs and drives fine just doesnt go as fast as my powerstroke did and doesnt look pretty. just getting ideas for a little down the road after i get this exhaust on and the body fixed up
The strokes are faster engines, they are also a lot newer design, gotta remember the design for this engine is almost 30 years old, while the first powerstroke's design is 20 years old.
putting a turbo on an IDI with 20plus to 1 comp for a 10 or 15 hp gain just dosent seem worth it to me for the cost cause if you want run any boost at all you got to do so much to the eng more air = more fuel and in a 22.5 to 1 comp eng there aint much room for much
195 was about what the stock factory turbo'd IDI's did (there was a reason for that low number) its pretty easy to see 250 HP and 450+ TQ with a good turbo setup and proper tuning. Look at this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...injectors.html
Thank you Ford390, the reason for that low number is because they had the Powerstroke coming out and they didnt want to have an older engine have the same power, and torque as a newer one.
Actually, I did it several years ago, and if I was to do it again, I wouldn't.
A lot of work and fabbing, 5-8 lbs boost. For the time and money get an ATS or Banks engineered for the truck in the 1st place.
depends where he wants to end up really, if hes lookin for more than 10lbs he should be looking at a custom setup turbo anyway. Like said above, not much room in our high CR engines for more boost, all the kits for these trucks arent designed to give more than 10lbs or less. If i had to guess, the butt dyno says a 093 ats with the pump turned up is around 225-230 engine horsepower and 430-440lb ft. It will run with a gen 1 psd with the same load without breakin a sweat. Ours needs more fuel and the turbo gone thru. Under load were only seein 6-7lbs and 750 egts, no smoke to speak of.
