Engine compatibility question

I have a 1991 F-150 XLT Lariat with a 5.0. I have dumped quite of bit of money into her and am at the point of no return. I recently noticed the PCV valve blowing oil onto my air filter. The valve cover gasket is leaking again, less than 6 months old. I had suspicions of bad valve guides. Long story short it overheated. There was no water in the radiator and no leaks noticed. It sounds to me to be a cracked head or even just a head gasket. Since it has 160K on the engine I think it would be wise to overhaul the top and bottom. My question is this. I have a 1992 Crown Vic, interceptor model with a 5.0. Is this the same engine? The truck is a daily driver so it would be nice to overhaul the Crown vic’s engine and drop it in rather than have it down a few weeks for an overhaul. Any ideas?

They may have a different cam, but as far as the heads and block go they should be identical.

Honestly all I care about are my pumps, AC compressor etc. bolting on after the rebuild. It would really suck to realize the intake, water pump, or other accesories wouldn't bolt on to the new engine. I just want to take the basic engine and drop it in. Then bolt on all the trucks peripherals.

Would he need the computer out of the car? I thought this came up not too long ago. Somebody putting a Mustang engine in a truck. But then again, he had a 300 in the truck.

Should be fine using stock computer as he's only swapping blocks staying with 302.

OK. I wasn't sure if there was a difference in firing order or anything like that between the car and truck engine. I thought I'd read that someplace but maybe I'm just getting old lol. Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for the replies Kevin and Edgethis! I suppose it's time to find a good engine stand/hoist and get it going. It's been awhile since I did any major engine work. I wonder how much machine shops have gone up since then . I suppose I'll find out. Thanks again!

I believe the Vic has an "HO" 302 in it which has a different firing order than the truck 302, up until (I think) '94. Injectors are batch fired, so you'll just have to swap the spark-plug order to match the HO firing order.
