A stock alternator with good fully charged batteries can read as low as 13.1 to 13.4 and be perfectly OK. When the batteries need charging it will increase to the upper 13's, lower 14's. Mine runs in the low 13's fairly often and when I check the static voltage after sitting all night the batteries read 12.7 volts. You won't get any better than that. I would venture to say that many a good alternator were trashed before their time.
