02 Expl Power Seat Schematic

So the wife went to run to the store for milk while I'm home for lunch, and the seat started acting up. We had moved it all the way forward looking for a piece of paper, and it doesn't want to move back. Sticking my head underneath the back side, one worm gear activates when you cycle the switch backward, but the left worm gear doesn't move.

I haven't had a chance to pull the seat yet, but wondered if any of you guys had a pic, or could tell me if it's a dual motor seat, or if some sort of linkage/chain has failed.

I'd appreciate any help you guys could give.

Thanks!,
Jim

If you send me a Private Message with the request and an e-mail address for you, I can send you a PDF of the schematic for the power seats.

look from the back and you will see an electrical connection with 4-6 wires in it laying on the floor. maybe it pulled loose when moved all the way forward. if you have elect, but it slips, thats different. One motor drives both sided. Normally a gear box on both sides. Motor has two outputs shafts, one each side.

No, it's plugged in. The right worm gear turns, but only so far, then the seat binds against the left worm gear. I'm anxiously awaiting the pdf! Thanks anyway.

Jim, my Internet was down last night and has taken me half an hour to get pages to load this morning. Hopefully it will be better this evening so I can get those PDFs to you.

Update,
Last night I yanked the seat out and looked it over (while it was still plugged in). The fwd/rwd motor was working properly, but the drive cable to the left side was flexing within the shaft. I used a pair of pliers to grab the worm gear shaft and rotate it and wha la, it worked! A more intelligent design would have put a keyway on the back of those worm gear shafts so that the seat could be moved via wrench if needed.

The seat clicks now as it moves forward and back. I'm guessing a tooth between the drive cable and the worm gear has been damaged therefore causing the binding problem. It's only a matter of time before it goes out and then we'll have to replace the whole assembly. But for now it's working again.

Peace,
Jim
