My mistake . The shift collar has an inner ring as well as the painted exterior . It looked like they were two seperate pieces . I was doing my best to avoid banging up the exterior surface . It looks like the next thing I will have to worry about is splicing the nine wires that I will have to cut to get the old collar off and the new back on .
The pins on the connector to wiring harness are removable allowing you to replace turn signal switch without cutting and splicing. At least on the same era vehicles I work on. It's probably a half moon shaped connector if I'm right. Think I have an old one I can post a pic and tell you how to do it.
they look soldered and rivited to me ,but this is new territory to me . Anything helps that will get it put back together right .I don't see any pins ?
The wires would run down thru inside of column and have a plug together connector under the dash. Actually a crescent shape, older years would have one or two square shaped connectors. The ends will come out of connector intact after releasing a small keeper and whole switch and wires pull out of column. Reinstall is just as simple. Run wires back thru column and push pins back in connector. No splices needed.
