My Truck has started idleing rough sometimes............sometimes when I start it..it will idle rough......I give it a little gas and let it slowly settle down and it is fine..........while driving everything is fine, truck runs good.......when I come to a stope sign and put in the clutch sometimes it will idle down rough.......I give it a little gas and slowly let off the pedal and it will settle down just fine.........so what do you folks think it is?
Oh and thanks to all you gave input on my bad idle pulleys.........they came off and were replaced just fine.........
I recently started having an odd idel sometimes.. Does your problem happen when it is cold? I have not started mine up since I noticed the weird idel but I'm thinking mine is a case of ipr o rings only 20 some bucks from clay at riffraffdiesel I think.. This may be your Problem as well, anyways now I'm subscribed to follow along!
No, this happens all the time for me........doesn't seem to matter if it hot or cold............if I give it a little gas while idling and let off the gas pedal slowly it will start to idle like it should
My guess (and it is just that without IPR data while your truck is running) is that the IPR O-rings need to be replaced. The IPR can cause the truck to idle funny as it cycles to try to balance the HPOP pressure. Replacing the o-rings is a cheap (and relatively easy) place to start.
Just a off the hip suggestion/question.
How old is your oil/filter? We need good clean oil to run properly (b/c of the antifoaming properties. Once they are gone...we don't act right)
oil and filter are fine.......I religiously change them every 2-3 thousand miles.......I figure oil and filters are cheap considering the cost of a new engine............this thing is driving me nuts..........a friend the other day told me my truck sounded awful.
can anyone else think of anything else.....
and thanks to those that have helped so far........when I drive my truck....it will go anywhere from 600-1000 miles in one whack.........only stop for fuel and if you've ever been through the deserts of nevada or utah on those two lane roads.........you don't even want to think about breaking down out there.......so I try to keep my truck humming.
Can you see anything leaking from the area of the IPR? What about the ICP? If either one if these is leaking, it is a sign of issues that could be causing your troubles. Unplug the electrical connectors from them both and check them thoroughly for leaks.
Another thing it could be is air in the fuel. Does it do it on both tanks or just one? When was the fuel filter changed last? Have you ever cleaned the screen in the FPR? Aerated fuel can cause strange issues at idle and if the screen in the FPR is dirty or clogged, the fuel system will not remove air from the fuel the way it is designed to do. You can either clean the screen with the blunted end of a q-tip (the stick part, not the cotton) from inside the fuel bowl or you can pull the whole FPR off and give it a really good cleaning. There are a couple other in-tank things it could be, but those generally are only on one tank, and usually don't happen until the tank is below half full.
Give us some more info and we will get you straightened out.
