I bought a 2009 F350 xlt Dually v10 With 1090 Miles (no its not a typo). Traded in my 99 F350 dually 7.3 six speed for it (hips and back hurt too bad to shift). Any way I used to get 13 Mpg hauling my goldwing in the back and towing my 8000 lb camper, and in my new truck im getting 7.5.MPG. OK I know I wont get the same MPG as Diesel but Wow. What a drop,
Does anyone make a tune for these trucks to boost mpg?
I love the truck , it sure is alot quieter than my diesel, and it sure is nice putting it in gear and going instead of shifting (especially in traffic) . Runs as smooth as silk. And I know she will get a little better MPG as she gets broke in, But probably not much. I know im not the first to ask and I wont be the last so thanks in advance for all the help. Oh and what is a 5 star?
I'm not yet a V10 owner but when/if I move up first call will be to Mike at 5 Star! The testimonials here alone are enough to convince me his research, trial and whole way of doing business is beyond compare. Since the comments here are from actual satisfied real-world users there can't be a better indication of who you'd be dealing with.
For your own piece of mind read the threads here about Mike's stuff----you'll be impressed I'm sure!
I just got back from a trip to the Black Hills towing my flat deck with FJ40 Land Cruiser, tools, welder, camping gear ect.
I averaged 10.8mpg towing this 10k but it doesen't drag a lot of air, and my truck is a SRW.

Congrats - that said you will never see 13 again unless you are towing the back side of a big hill
But your v10 will give you more in other areas that you 7.3 did not. No lag, quite and clean burning. Both the 7.3 and the 6.8 is drop dead dependable so that is a wash but with the price of unleaded vs diesel and maint... well it may be a wash for some.
My 2008 with the 4.10 rear gives me a consistant 8.5 towing my 30' Airstream with a slide/out which is right at 10k and 900lbs of hitch weight. I towed it 8,000 miles this spring and no matter what the condition, seems to always be in that mid-8 mpg. Solo I'm getting 11.5. I have 92,xxx miles on it and it still runs like a brand new one. Never had a single hickup it's whole life. I do think if you are towing much to add a Summit Racing external tranny filter for $40, it's worth it. I also added the Mag-Hytech rear dif cover as well; with the fins and extra capacity keeps the temps down.
