Hi all. I just did a project today and replaced transmission fluid and filter and refilled. Got ready to take it from the garage back out to its parking spot, and it was dark, so i turned the lights on....no headlights. All the other markers and lights work, just not the headlights. I tried the bright switch on the floor and they work! Why on earth would I have no dims but have brights. Left and right are both out! I checked fuses, connections, etc. Everything works. The only real trauma for the Truck was getting let down from the jack to the floor. It was a little rough, but nothing more than what a speedbump would do. Please help. Until It is fixed I guess i roll with brights only (sorry other cars)! Thanks guys.
Dimmer switch is a likely cause, but before dropping any money into parts, grab a test light and see if there is any power getting to the lights on low beam. It could be a wiring issue, or the rare fluke that both low beams burned out at the same time......
If they haven't worked at all in the time you've owned it, they could have burned out at different times, but the PO never bothered to replace them.....
Did you disconnect the battery cables during your transmission work? If so, check their connections. Poor connection at the battery can cause some wierd symptoms.
1. They are both brand new sylvania silverstar sealed beams. About 2-3 months old. I used dielectric grease on the connections when i installed them if that matters...
2. I didn't disconnect battery while working on transmission.
3. I will go voltmeter lights in lo beam when it stops raining.
I bet when i dropped it off the jack it finished something off that was on its way out. Maybe the dimmer switch as Rogue mentioned.
