Door locks will not work

Have an 01 7.3 4x4. The door locks will not work , driver side or passenger door. I can hear it trying to lock when I try to lock on the driver's door, and when I try it on the passenger door; but the locks will not work on all 4 doors. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the lock actuators are bad, if you hear any of them trying to lock, you can almost rule out a lock switch. If it was the switch, none would work or even try

Here's a link to a fix: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-pictures.html

I did the aluminum foil fix on mine a couple years ago, and they're holding up just fine.

What's your history with this truck?

Did you just buy it and find the door locks are inop, or have you had it a long time and it just started not working?

Good diagnosis requires we have some details, not just "They won't work".

Inside each electric door lock actuator motor there is a heat-sensitive variable resistor. Their purpose is to change the amount of current that passes through the motor if they get hot. It's something that would happen if your dog stood on the door-lock switch for more than a couple of seconds, and is to protect the motor from burn-out.

Over time, the value of that resistor changes, and eventually gets so high in value that enough current cannot pass to allow the motors to overcome the physical resistance to actuate the lock mechanisms.

Your fix will depend on how handy you are. Some folks take it to the dealer. A pricey fix, indeed!

Some buy new actuators from the dealer (or aftermarket), take the latch mechanisms apart and replace them. Still, spendy, though not for the labor.

Some of us take the actuators apart, pull out the motor, take it apart too, and "jumper out" that resistor. Virtually free to do, but not for the impatient!

How do you wish to proceed?

Thanks for the info! But is it common for all four doors to go out?
My 03 had that problem with the left back door and I replaced it. It was not simple. Will I have to door it to all four doors or is there something common to all four doors - that I only have to do once! Ha ha
Thanks for the HELP!

Each door latch assembly has to come apart.

They all went out a little bit at a time, and they were all gone when you got it.

The only things in common to all of them are switches and relays.

Need a schematic?
