I read posts regularly, but keep a low profile unless there is a problem. Yes, there is a problem. 99 7.3, chipped and 4 inch exhaust. Very hot here on Long Island. Went for a short ride, then some shopping. Last stop, no start. Pulled chip, nothing. Checked all fuses, nothing. Any ideas? Maybe CPS? Have a backup in glove box. Any ideas would help. Already pulled bowl heater about 2 yrs. ago. Thanks. Chris
Yep, could be CPS. Could be the batteries...they go without warning in these trucks. Check to make sure the battery terminals don't have corrosion around the posts, make sure the terminals are on tight (I know, basic stuff, but I've been *stumped* by basics many times).
When you say it won't start, it is cranking? How does it sound? If it's weak, could be the batteries. If it's strong, could be CPS. Keep the chip unplugged until you get it sorted out!
I have all electric accessories powered, just nothing when I turn to start. Batteries are fairly new, and I have been down the CPS route before. Thanks for the help. I intend to let it sit the night (local shopping plaza), and will give it a go tomorrow. Chris
You might also want to try tilting your steering column up and down, the wires for the ign switch may be chaffed.
If it will not crank, leave it in park, leave the key on, go to the passenger side right near the vac tank and the A/c dryer, there is a yellow wire there with a big black connector, take that connector loose, the side going down below the battery, touch that to the hot post of the battery and it should turn over and start.
i hade the simalar problem with mine and found out my main power wire froing from starter to passenger battery was bad i just orderd the cabel from dealer because i couldnt find it anywere else (yikes) i could turn my key on and everthing worked but starting it acted like a shourt so hopfully this will work for me..... goodluck tho
Thanks for all the suggestions. No, it is not cranking when the key is put to start. I will run through all the possible solutions this morning after Mass, maybe even pray a little, can't hurt. Chris
Check you battery voltage 1st as others had said both sitting and when you turn the key. I cleaned mine and put Noalox on the terminals yesterday and wow what a difference!
Truck started just fine this morning. Not once, but twice. I recall that the computer where the chip is plugged in was very hot yesterday. Obviosly something is not right. I was running a little hard yesterday, blowing a little smoke at traffic lights, but nothing that extreme. I will monitor the situation and check batteries, starter cable and may just switch out the CPS. Thanks for all the suggestions. Chris
